Brady Guadet, Salem High: 'My hero, my grandfather' (2024)

AGE: 18

FAMILY: Father, Dean Gaudet; mother, Cara Gaudet

COLLEGE PLANS:

Franklin Pierce University: I plan on doing a double major in Management and Marketing and am currently unsure of a minor as well, I will be playing soccer for the defending D2 champs and hope to win multiple more titles.

FAVORITE SUBJECT:

Math, specifically statistics, as it helps me understand the world around me and the probability of actions this subject has greatly helped me in my many years of soccer and other sports by analyzing statistics and other data we can help ourselves and our teammates improve upon area in which we lack. This is why I view statistics as such in important topic for me to learn and improve upon.

BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT BEING A HS STUDENT:

The biggest misconception about be a high school student is that your years in high school are care free and easy. It couldn’t be farther than the truth. There is an extreme amount of pressure placed upon you by multiple sources whether it be expectations pressure to preform to have good grades the are a multitude of levels of pressure applied to a high school student and I know in my personal experience most of that pressure I placed on myself that is how people can misconstrue the life of a high school student.

BEST ADVICE YOU’D GIVE AN INCOMING FRESHMAN:

The most important piece of advice I could give to an incoming high school freshman is to become the best version of yourself. This can come in multiple forms. For me it was athletics that lead my journey for others it could be clubs, meeting new friends, getting a job ... I would tell them to explore all of the new opportunities they have been given and embrace them all. While they might not enjoy everything they will eventually find something they truly enjoy.

THE BALANCE OF BEING A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT-ATHLETE:

The balance of being a successful student athlete isn’t for those who aren’t willing to try and fail. It takes levels of perseverance and dedication that almost everyone must find within themselves for me this was ending soccer practice to then run over to football practice to then having to go to physical therapy to then having club practice and finally at 10:30 p.m. I could come home and begin working on my homework. This schedule lasted for about three months. During this time I had to truly work to succeed in both the classroom and on the field this is the balance of being a successful student athlete sacrifice is a necessity and you will struggle and possibly fail at some points but the journey is to get back up and keep working that is how you can be successful in both school and sports.

WHAT ‘SUCCESS’ MEANS TO ME:

Success to me is the goal of always winning while I know this is impossible it is a good goal to shoot for whether it is making the right preparations to achieve success or it is working until you cannot fail. Success is putting everything you have into a task whether that be a game practice or homework or studying. To successful it takes as much as you have and more Success to me is the giving everything you have regardless of the outcome if you do this even in defeat you still feel proud and willing to try again

FAVORITE MOMENT AS AN ATHLETE IN HS:

Playing soccer and football in the same season this was extremely special to me as I was the only one in my school to do two fall sports in the same year it also gave me the brotherhood of two family’s that being football and soccer while both seasons ended short of the goal we had set I still reminisce about the time that I was so blessed to have with the people who I fell are family.

FAVORITE CHARITY:

St Jude save lives of children that truly need help I have met kids who have been in and out of hospitals around the country and their families desperately need help this is where St Jude’s hospital had a major impact as the support families of sickly children throughout the journey from diagnosis to recovery I believe that they are doing Gods work and have saved thousands of lives and will continue to save lives.

BEST ADVICE YOU EVER GOT FROM A COACH:

“Get out of your own head and just play.” Coach Robert McLaughlin this advice resonates with me in multiple ways relating to the pressure that athletes such as myself place upon themselves but this advice reminds me that it is just a game it not the end of the world while I still strive to win this reminds me that my best effort and work that I put in will in fact help me succeed and that I need to allow myself to fail and grow as a person.

MY HERO IS ...

My Grandfather Samuel Gualtieri. This can seem repetitive to some people, my grandfather, God rest his soul, is my hero for multiple reasons he joined the military to protect the land that I live on which already makes him a hero to me. He also was a college athlete which shows another level of sacrifice he made for his goals and in his later years he became a teacher to help spread his experience and knowledge to future generations seeing all of this and hearing about his life makes the time I had with my grandfather that much more important to me and shows the impact he had on me and countless others.

IN 10 YEARS I HOPE TO:

Have successfully graduated college started my career which in a perfect world would be to own a business that I have started myself and run it. I would also like to settle down and start a family and provide that family with a great life with a final goal of passing on that hopefully successful business to my children and in 10 years from now I hope to get this goal started and work towards the future.
