Father's Day Weekend in Detroit: 48 Hours of Fun | Visit Detroit (2024)

TGIFriday (Thank Golf It’s Friday)

But first, fuel up! And by fuel, we mean feast.

Because Dad Deserves to Eat Like a King

King’s Grill is a total gem hidden in plain sight, full of phenomenal fare to enjoy from the best selection of breakfast all day to big burritos, juicy burgers, classic coneys, and plenty more. The menu is massive, as are the portion sizes. Don’t get me started on the freshly baked cakes! If your dad has a sweet tooth, he will be satisfied. This is a celebration! Eat the cake, and enjoy it! King’s Grill is located on West Fort Street across from the United States Postal Service.

18 Chances For A Hole-in-One

If your dad is anything like my dad, then he probably enjoys a good game of golf. You’re in luck if so, as Detroit has plenty of courses where Dad can get 18 chances at that ultimate score of a hole-in-one. Chandler Park Golf Course is home to some of the best greens with a large practice green for putting and chipping. This course is a Par 71 layout that is beginner-friendly, yet it can also be challenging for experienced golfers. Altogether now: Fore!

Another fun and different option for golf-loving dads is the Topgolf Swing Suite located inside MGM Grand Detroit. This super trendy social experience features four Topgolf simulator bays and is fun for everyone - golf experience is not necessary. Guests can choose from a variety of multi-sport simulation games and even play on world-famous PGA golf courses. This immersive experience offers a comfy lounge for full enjoyment of food and beverage services, as well.

Burgers and Brainpower

If your dad has knowledge to spare, bring him out to Basem*nt Burger Bar for Trivia Night. Every Friday at 7 and 8pm, indulge in exceptional food while testing your brainpower with Quizzo. If Dad likes a good retro game night, head out to the Farmington Hills location of Basem*nt Burger Bar to enjoy 1 Up Arcade’s 25-30 arcade games before or after your meal.

Hello Saturday: More to Celebrate!

Dad will love a Saturday spent at Atwater Brewery, Detroit’s craft brewery born here in 1997. If you think he’d enjoy a brewery tour, schedule your appointment for Saturday at 2 or 3 p.m. Snack on American and German-inspired pub fare while sipping on hand-crafted beers, wines, and Atwater Spirits in the taproom, or kick it up a notch on the rooftop Biergarten for an elevated experience. If Dad likes souvenirs, he will love the merch options for beer to-go, including kegs, growlers, cases, and even six packs. Cheers to you, Dad!

Behold the Beauty of Belle Isle

After all that beer and bar food, nothing is better than a nap. After your nap, head on over the bridge to behold the beauty of Belle Isle, where there is so much to see! From the Aquarium to the Nature Center, plus the Conservatory, there is no shortage of exceptional wonder to enjoy while wandering through the State Park’s array of offerings fit for every nature-loving dad. Bring a big blanket or beach towels and a basket full of snacks and refreshments for a relaxing picnic, plus fishing poles and any other must-haves to make sure Dad enjoys his time to the fullest.

Sunday Funday in the D

When in Detroit with Dad, bring him around to a few casinos for a spin at winning big. From Hollywood Casino at Greektown to MotorCity Casino on Grand River and MGM Grand near Corktown, there is no shortage of fun to be had at the many casinos on offer right here in the D. Try all three as you make your way around the city for free courtesy of the Detroit People Mover.

Dine So Fine, Dad Eats Free

Free meals are typically reserved for kiddos too young to talk back about the cost of the food. Not this time! For a limited time in celebration of Father’s Day, Andiamo Detroit Riverfront is the place to go out to eat because it is the place where dads eat free! I repeat: Dads eat free. Not to mention the delicious food, the incredible view, and the phenomenal location - right on the Detroit Riverfront inside the Renaissance Center - perfect for a stroll before or after that free Father’s Day meal. You’re welcome!

This post is dedicated to my dad, Jeff Schering, and to my brother, Scott Schering. Both are long-time, loyal employees at DTE Energy. Both are incredible dads. Happy Father’s Day!
